Each structure retains its own identity while contributing to a cohesive retreat deeply connected to its surroundings.

Perched within the tea country of the Kalutara District in Sri Lanka’s Western Province, the villa is immersed in tea plantations, dense vegetation, mature trees, and mist-covered mountains. The journey to the site winds through the plantation, gradually revealing the architecture nestled within the greenery. The design responds with a light touch, allowing the natural terrain and vegetation to remain the dominant elements.

Accommodation is distributed across individual chalets, stepping naturally along the contours of the land. Rather than imposing a large structure on the mountaintop, the smaller volumes are scattered across the site, creating a sense of a secluded hillside settlement. Each pavilion engages independently with the landscape while maintaining privacy.

A restrained and earthy material palette of timber, natural textures, and muted tones sits comfortably within the deep greens of the tea estate. Pitched tiled roofs establish a familiar Sri Lankan silhouette, while generous overhangs and open verandahs respond to the tropical climate and create shaded spaces for living.
