Wild Elephas Udawalawe.

  • Situated adjacent to a river and within nature, this project sought to create an eco tourism resort. The client also sought to ensure that the design had a low impact approach which would allow the land to be easily reverted to its natural state. All Design considerations were based on environmental impacts, sustainability and guided by budgetary constraints. Tent cottages are the unique feature of this resort, and the Design sought to explore a translation of Sri Lanka’s solid and compact cottage architecture with its pitched roofs into a the more transient form of a tent.

In seeking to intimately engage these structures into their wild surroundings, inspiration was taken from the natural surroundings. a-design studio worked closely with the Tent manufacturers to create compactly designed and self sufficient tents which are laced together by network of walkways.
