Sheibat Al Watah Villas
architecture - 2012
Schematic design for 1,100 villas located in Al Ain, UAE. The villas comprised of 5 and 6 bedroom types. These were designed in three different layouts complimented by three elevational treatments applied: Gulf Heritage, Modern and a Hybrid version. This approach created a desired variety to the urban fabric.
The careful placement of the various layouts provided opportunities to reduce overlooking and maximize distances between villas. A sense of place ‘genius loci’ was created by pushing and pulling the boundary walls, creating pocket gardens between plots, each with its own sense of identity and character, helping to define areas within the community.
Inspiration for the materials and colour palette came from the surrounding landscapes and architecture. Therefore, the design approach ensures that the design aesthetic remains unique to its geographical location and subtly reflects the regional architecture.
